20/20
Action Teams Update
September 1, 2004
This past week was a very busy one for
many of the six 20/20 Vision Action Teams. Here
is an update on some of the team activities.
On Thursday, August 19th, the six teams
received training from Dan Frank with
the Initiative Foundation out of Little Falls. Frank
explained
the process of creating action plans
to achieve the goals of each group. Each action team
has now
established a list of both short term
and long term goals to be accomplished in the community.
Tuesday evening August 24th, the 20/20
Design Standards team met with the
Cold Spring Lions Club and Park Board to iron
out final plans
for the new building to be constructed
in Lions Park. Construction, expected to begin
this fall,
will include a number of design changes
suggested by the Design Standards team and accepted
by the
joint committee.

Wednesday, August 25th, the 20/20 Steering
Committee met at City Hall and updated
their roles and goals in the continuing
20/20 Vision process.
New co-chairs were established which
include Kay Cook, Ken Wendinger and
Duane Kuss. Each steering
committee member is also a member of
one of the six 20/20 action teams.
These include Brigetta
Klemek/ Design Standards, Nadine Schnettler/Arts & Culture,
Larry Lahr/ Land Use, Kay Cook/ Natural
Resources, Betty Johnson/ Volunteer Services
and Duane Kuss/
Tourism.
The City of Cold Spring and Wakefield
Township joint task force has now been
appointed by both governing bodies. Representing
the City
of Cold Spring will be Mayor Brigetta
Klemek and Councilor Doug Schmitz. Representing
the Wakefield
Town Board and their Planning Commission
will be Wally Backes, Allan Backes, John Willenbring
and
Roger Thomas. The first meeting of
this group will take place sometime in September.
This joint committee
will look at ways to cooperate in the
future on planning and development.

Both the 20/20 Land Use Planning and
the Design Standards action teams were
represented at the Cold Spring City
Council meeting on Wednesday
August 25th. The two groups were present
to provide support for a "Gateway East" Master
Plan for the city. The council approved
a budget for
the plan and will put out a bid for
firms to do the work. The 20/20 Design
Standards Action Team
committed to providing their services
to help bring down costs of the project.
